No I. SUMMARY OF PROJECT STATUS AND PROPOSED CHANGES The World Bank Comoros Social Safety Net Project (P150754) The SSN project has progressed well and is likely to reach its objectives, now one month prior to its original closing date of June 30, 2019. All indicators have been achieved despite some challenging political and operational circumstances. On April 24/25, 2019, Comoros was hit by tropical Cyclone Kenneth with impact on all three islands, and particularly on Grande Comores. A first rapid assessment reported damages in 45 communes with more than 385,000 people affected -almost half of the country's population. The Government has declared a national emergency. The SSN project includes a sub-component for Early Recovery Response to Natural Disasters. It is ideally placed to respond to the emergency through cash for work activities and the rehabilitation of basic community infrastructure. The Government of Comoros has therefore requested an extension of the SSN project to allow for additional financing to respond to the effects of the cyclone. II.
