Unregulated dumping of solid waste was the general practice in muncipalities along the Southern Coast. In the absence of waste disposal infrastructure the disposal of municipal solid waste would have remained inadequate, damaging the coastal environment, and an impediment for high value tourism. The population in the service area of the landfill was estimated at 60,000 inhabitants (peek season) at design stage. The built landfill capacity will be 365,000m3 which provides adequate disposal capacity for up to 17 years at generation level of 1.05kg/inhabitant/day for the municipalities in the area. Currently the landfill and the transfer statsion are 95% completed. The additional comments are provided to clarify the minor modification made in the formulation of the indicator under the new ISR template. No changes of target value.
