The project has already met or exceeded most of the targets set in the project Results Framework and Monitoring except those related to upgrades of fishing ports/landing sites and fisheries database, which are underway but need some more time to be completed. The project has achieved good results in activities for integrated spatial planning (ISP), farmer training and adoption of good aquaculture practices (GAP), and fisheries co-management. Cumulatively, ISP activities have been rolled out to all 40 project coastal districts, involving 257 project communes. Some 1,502 ISP members at all levels have been trained. Some 249 GAP groups in 50 GAP zones have been established, involving 8,971 participating shrimp farming households over a farming area of 11,622 ha. In addition, 32 diversification zones have also been established, with 2,483 households participating aquaculture farmers over a farming area of 4,147 ha. Around 85% of the surveyed farms had appropriate wastewater treatments meeting the required environmental standards and 90% practiced proper pond mud handling after harvest (compared to less than 10% before project). Around 89% of farmers in the GAP zones now are stocking high quality seed stock. Disease losses in 2017 were reportedly reduced by 76% in farming area (hectares) and 77% in yield (tons/ha) compared to the baselines. To date, 97 co-management groups (CMGs) have been established, involving 13,751 fishing households over 826 km coastlines. In addition, three Locally Managed Marine Areas (LMMA) have been officially approved, established, and under implementation. Data collection of the catches and reporting also have been maintained in all provinces. A proposed closing date extension to allow more time to complete all planned works investment is under discussion.
