To date, DINEPA has financed through the Project the rehabilitation of the water supply systems of Anse-à-Pitres (South East Department), Point-a-Raquette and Boucan Lamare (La Gonave Island, West Department). Construction and rehabilitation of the water supply systems of Casse, Biassou, Boc-Banic and Los Cacaos (Center Department) have been completed. A large pumping station with three pumps for Gonaïves utility has been restored (Cholera hot spot). The water tower of Caracol was also restored. Construction of 6 sanitary blocks (Point-a-Raquette, Boucan Lamare, Casse, Biassou, Boc-Banic and Los Cacaos) and drilling 3 boreholes at Anse-à-Galet on the island of Gonâve and Water trucking à Anse Rouge et à Cornillon was completed. Finally, 6/9/2019 Page 1 of 12 The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report HT Sustainable Rural and Small Towns Water and Sanitation Project (P148970) the WSS service infrastructure damaged by Hurricane Matthew in the Southwestern region was restores and the installation of new water disinfection equipment in all 68 localities completed. In the South region, the works for the rehabilitation and extension of the water supply systems of Port-Salut, Tiburon, Roche-à-Bateau; Port-à- Piment and Les Anglais are ongoing. The pumping tests in Bodarie – Grand Gosier have shown that there is enough water and the rehabilitation works on the water system will start soon. In the Centre and North region, the emergency rehabilitation works on the Thomonde water system is ongoing. The following works in several municipalities will be launched during the next months : (I) Northwest region: the Andro water system, in the municipality of Chansolme, 12 small hurricane affected SAEP and 8 water points converted to solar pumping in the communal sections of Port-de-Paix ; (ii) Center region : Lascahobas, Cerca La Source, 5 small SAEP near the border, 12 small water point out of the 35 planned and, (iii) South region: La Vallée Jacmel, Latiboliere, and 7 small rural water point out of the 45 planned. For the three regions, two companies in charge of the hydrological studies and supervision for 210 boreholes have been selected, and the tender for recruitment of four contractors for these boreholes campaign in rural and small towns was launched. Three consulting companies have been contracted and started for; (i) studies of the water systems of Verrettes and Anse Rouge in the Centre; (ii) studies in the water systems of Jean Rabel, Lacoma, Saint Louis du Nord and; (iii) Saint Michel de l'Attalaye, Mole Saint Nicolas and Trou du Nord. So far, approximately 42,970 people have gained access to improved water supply sources. A large portion of the rural population is also expected to benefit with the sanitation facilities in public schools and public spaces. The construction of 11 latrines blocks in public schools and binational markets in the border with the Dominican Republic and the South region is completed. In coordination with the World Bank Education teams project a join program restoring sanitation and water facilities in 60 public schools has started by launching 12 schools in the South department. Guidance on "improved water sources": "Improved water sources" include piped household connection (house or yard connections), public standpipe, boreholes, protected dug well, protected spring and rainwater collection. Hence, "Improved Water Sources" do not include, inter alia, water provided through tanker truck, or vendor, unprotected well, unprotected spring, surface water (river, pond, dam, lake, stream, irrigation channel), or bottled water. The definition of what is considered an "improved water source" follows the UNICEF-WHO Joint Monitoring Program definition. Note that "Improved Water Sources" does not refer to the question of new versus Comments: rehabilitated water sources, but is the standard definition used to track progress on the Millennium Development Goals. Guidance on people with access: The data on the number of people provided with access can be estimated by TTLs by multiplying i) the actual number of piped connections with an estimate of the number of people per household connection; and/or ii) the actual number of community water points with an estimate of the number of people per community water point. The assumptions made regarding number of people per connection made should be carefully documented in the comments' section of the indicator when data is entered in the ISR.
