The disbursement rate has improved substantially over the last 6-12 months. Progress in recent months has been most visible in the importation of improved breeding stock for cattle and sheep and the ongoing trials for new vegetable varieties, as well as in the procurement of a new mobile slaughter unit which will start servicing Upolu in early 2016. The project has also made significant contributions to strengthening the institutional capacity at MAF, with the Crops and Livestock divisions better equipped to support project-financed activities and enhance their overall support to improving agriculture productivity and competitiveness in Samoa. Continued investment in improving extension services and farmer training will be essential to ensuring that the gains from SACEP are sustainable.
