Cable/infrastructure: Implementation of the cable is on track and Ready for Service is anticipated on June 26, 2018. 2. Regulatory Technical Assistance: The Fiji Communications, Commerce and Competition Commission (FCCC) and the Department of Communications (DOC) are recruiting consultants for capacity-building support. 3. Financial Management: The designated account is operational. The overall disbursement rate is lagging, despite the fact that most of the Project funds have been committed. DOC has been reminded to accelerate processing of withdrawal applications for Loan funds. 4. Procurement: The revised procurement plan has been completed. 5. Cost Savings: Re-routing of submarine cable has saved on costs. Further savings through utilization of DOC staff rather than consultants for project management are expected. DoC has proposed to use the cost savings to co-finance a new optical fibre link from the Savusavu CLS to Labasa via a proposed new airport that will serve both Labasa and Savusavu. DOC will discuss further internally and share a proposal with the WB during the next implementation review.
