The objective of the Chongqing Small Towns Water Environment Management Project for China is to reduce flood risks and improve wastewater infrastructure services in selected counties of Chongqing Municipality. Some of the negative impacts and mitigation measures include: before starting the landslide treatment, the PIU will establish new access roads for the relevant sections for the neighboring communities, such as the group 7, group 8, group 9 and group 10 in Linjiang Community whose access road is close to the landslide sites; Geological disaster bulletin boards and warning signs have been set up in Tianchi and Guihuabang landslide sites; surface water in the landslide sites is intercepted and drained through horizontal intercepting ditches in the upper part, horizontal and vertical drain ditches in the middle, and vertical drain ditches in the lower part to ensure timely discharge. Cracks are closed or covered timely to reduce surface water seepage; and after the landslides, the Shaoqing Sub-district Office has closed both ends of the existing rural highway to prohibit vehicles from passing and set up traffic signs to guide vehicles.
