The development objective of the Oromia Forested Landscape Program for Ethiopia is to reduce deforestation and net greenhouse gas emissions from land use in targeted large forested landscapes in Oromia. Some of the negative impacts are include : (i) increased deforestation and forest degradation due to absence of full collaboration of sectoral institutes with Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MEFCC) (e.g. law enforcement weakness); (ii) may bring increased forest degradation from organized illegal cuttings; (iii) may increase the value offorest land over agriculture land; (iv) create economically driven forest mismanagement that may lead to forest degradation; (v) intensive care for the various agroforestry practices consumes the time and energy of household members; (vi) affects human health due to agricultural chemicals; (vii) difficult to adopt the technology in abundant forest resource areas; (viii) environmentaldegradation during harvesting and transporting time; (ix) loss of assets (livestock) tobe used for emergency case by selling; Some of the mitigation measures are include : (i) coordination unit to be assigned at higher Level that check synergy of the sectoral institutes; (ii) educate and train the community on the value of the forest; (iii) synchronize traditionaland modern land use system get the best out of the combination; (iv) put in place where theundergrowth and natural regeneration of tree; (v) integrate several types of agroforestry crops andtrees to get increased products from diversified crops and trees; (vi) encourage agricultureintensification by the use of compost than fertilizer especially for smallholderfarmers; ( vii) use charcoal gadgets with chimney and lid that prevent entry of particulate into the environment; (viii) educate farmers on saving of what is earned (from the main income generating or alternative income sources activities)
