Central Africa Region - Regional Environment Information Management Project (English)

The objectives of the Regional Environment Information Management Project are to: a) ensure the circulation of environmental information and optimize benefits from existing initiatives; b) foster involvement of decision-makers in environmental information use and facilitate sound land use planning in the Congo Basin; c) provide users with environmental information ; and d) strengthen national capacities for environmental information management. These objectives will be achieved through the implementation of four components. 1) The network creation and service component will promote and harmonize standards for data collection and integration, improve telecommunication infrastructure, develop information services, and develop directories and rosters. 2) The decision-making and communication component will develop user-friendly information tools, organize sensitization and communication workshops for decision-makers, and develop communication tools for rural population and the public. 3) The user-oriented production component will produce and update information on forestry and biodiversity, on agriculture and rural development, and on geological resources and mine extraction. 4) The capacity building component will provide equipment of local agencies, technical assistance and training of national staff. It will also involve marketing of the national agencies and experts.
