Disclosable Restructuring Paper - Senegal COVID-19 Response Project - P173838 (English)

The objective of the Senegal COVID-19 Response Project is to prevent, detect and respond to the threat posed by COVID-19 and strengthen national systems for public health preparedness. The project restructuring is in response to a request from the Government of Senegal dated March 15, 2021 to extend the closing date of the project to enable sufficient time to prepare the Additional Financing package for COVID-19 vaccines and to continue to procure supplies for urgent need. The Additional Financing request was formally conveyed by the Government of Senegal in a letter dated February 4, 2021 to expand the COVID-19 response. The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors approved an envelope of US12 billion dollars (IBRD/IDA) on October 13, 2020 to support developing countries in the purchase and deployment of vaccines as well as strengthening the related immunization and health care delivery system. The Additional Financing will form part of an expanded health response to the pandemic, which is being supported by development partners under the coordination of the Government of Senegal, and will enable the procurement and deployment of COVID-19 vaccines that meet the World Bank’s Vaccine Approval Criteria (VAC) for 55 percent of the population.
