Cameroon - Agricultural Competitiveness and Diversification Project : environmental management framework (French)

The Project Development Objectives are to increase the competitiveness of smallholder producers working on specific value chains in high-potential areas. It is expected that the project will lead to increased value of production at gate level through increased productivity, productivity, quality and marketing of their productions. While smallholder producers will be the main project beneficiaries, it is expected that the project should work with different stakeholders along the value chains. The project will focus on selected agricultural value chains and will concentrate its activities in areas with high growth potential. Because of its support to agricultural activities, the project is expected to have site-specific, limited, and mostly mitigated impacts on the environment. To underline the potential environmental problems that could ensue from this project, the Environmental Management Framework (EMF) also identified the potential positive and negative impacts susceptible to be generated by the different types of subprojects that will be achieved in the frame of the Project. The rehabilitation and construction of infrastructures are some factors susceptible to affect the physical and biological environment. These activities, if they are not well managed at the beginning of the project, will cause impacts, however minor, on the physical and biological environment of the Project. The negative environmental impacts will value themselves in terms of erosion, of destruction of vegetation, of sterilization and deterioration of soils, of pollution of waters and soils. This EMF then presents possible negative impacts mitigation measures and compensation measures of positive impacts.
