Thailand - Yanhee Multipurpose Project (English)

The Yanhee Multipurpose Project for Thailand will assist in financing the construction of a multipurpose power center to be located 420 kilometers northwest of Bangkok on the Ping Piver, one of the main tributaries of the Chao Phya river, which is the most extensively used river in Thailand. It will impound flood water, store water for irrigation, produce power, and improve navigation in order to meet consumer power demands and increase agricultural production in Thailand. The project will accomplish these goals by: 1) constructing a large dam which would create a reservoir with a capacity of 12 billion cubic meters; 2) building two spillway tunnels to discharge unusually large floods; 3) constructing a powerhouse at the foot of the dam with an ultimate capacity of 560,000 KW; and 4) installing transmission lines to load centers in the central plain and Bangkok. These new additions will foster economic development through an increased power supply and higher levels of agricultural production.
