Ghana - Greater Accra Urban Resilience and Integrated Development Project : Environmental Assessment : Environmental Impact Statement for Rehabilitation, Closure and Aftercare Management of the Abloragyei Dumpsite (English)

The development objectives of the Greater Accra Urban Resilience and Integrated Development Project for Ghana are to: (1) strengthen flood and solid waste management; and (2) improve the living conditions of the most vulnerable communities in the Odaw Basin in the Greater Accra region. Some of the negative impacts include: (i) equipment and machinery breakdown; (ii) accidents related to slips, trips and falls, and piercing of workers; (iii) leachate generation from rainfall infiltration; (iv) dust from tipping and stockpiling of capping materials; (v) sexual abuse and harassment; (vi) reckless driving; and (vii) emissions. Some of the mitigation measures include: (i) establishing and functioning security post; (ii) use of safety boots and protective gloves; (iii) levelling and capping operations would be done in four sections; (iv) covering of stockpiled capping materials; (v) filing of all cases of human rights abuses; (vi) provision of contact number for reckless driving on the haulage trucks; and (vii) covering of trucks in transit with tarpaulins.
