Kiribati - Pacific Islands Regional Oceanscape Program Project : Environmental Assessment : Environmental and Social Management Framework (English)

The development objective of the Pacific Islands Regional Oceanscape Program Project for Kiribati is to improve management of selected fisheries and seafood safety in the recipient’s territory. Some of the negative impacts and mitigation measures include: (1) waste minimization and management measures should be detailed in waste management plan; (2) vessels used must meet all requirements including safety specifications and operated by trained and qualified persons; (3) the waste management plan should also address the storage, handling, and documentation for transfer of hazardous waste from the point of generation to the final disposal and address the following waste materials characteristics: ignitability, corrosivity, reactivity, and toxicity; (4) provide separate facilities for women and men. Define gender-based violence (GBV) requirements in construction health and safety (H and S) plan; and (5) and H and S management plans developed, and construction and demolition works should be completed accordingly.
