The development objective of the Integrated Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) Management Project is to assist the Philippines in minimizing the risk of human and environmental exposure to POPs by strengthening the regulatory and monitoring framework and improving capacity for and providing demonstrations of, safe management of Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs), reduction of releases of unintentionally produced POPs, and reduction of exposure to POPs in contaminated sites. The main changes include: 1) change in the remaining effectiveness condition from the Philippines Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) resolution to a commitment letter from Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR); 2) inclusion of a disbursement condition tied to activity site remediation demonstration under component four of the project in the grant agreement; 3) extension of the closing date of the GEF grant from June 30, 2011 to June 30, 2017; and 4) adjustment in target values and implementation schedule of some performance indicators.
