This press release, dated February 24, 1954, announces a loan of over eighteen million USD to the Brazilian Traction, Light & Power Company, Ltd. To help finance the construction of a 160,000-kilowatt thermal electric power plant at Piratininga near the city of Sao Paolo. The new plant will alleviate the power shortage in the Sao Paolo area, an important center of industrial production. It is scheduled for completion by the latter part of 1954. The Bank’s loan will pay for the imported equipment needed for the plant.
