The advanced draft Benefit Sharing Plan (BSP) for Guatemala’s Emission Reduction (ER) Program has been developed in anticipation of benefits that will be generated from ER Payment Agreement (ERPA) payments for verified ERs resulting from the ER Program. The goal of the ER Program is to reduce deforestation and forest degradation through a combination of enabling conditions and sustainable management practices to address underlying drivers. The advanced draft BSP was designed through the consultative, transparent and participatory process for the ER Program. The BSP is designed to reach a diverse group of beneficiaries including land owners, producers, associations, farmers, government, and communities. The eligibility criteria for beneficiaries are designed to ensure all relevant contributors to ERs receive benefits from the ER Program. The advanced draft BSP describes the various ER Program beneficiaries, their eligibility, roles and responsibilities, as well as the scale and modalities for benefit distribution. Additionally, the BSP describes the type of benefits to be distributed to the beneficiaries, the timing of the distribution, the conditions (roles and responsibilities) to be satisfied for the distribution of benefits, and the relevant institutional arrangements for monitoring, measuring and verifying compliance with modalities for distributing benefits.
