The Mexico Rural Electrification (CRL) Project aims at increasing access to electricity services and promoting social and economic development in the rural areas of the poorest state of Mexico. Some of the environmental impacts and corresponding mitigation measures are: effects on plants and animals, to be mitigated by relocation and reforestation; alteration of the landscape, to be mitigated by protecting from physical damage from installation activities the indigenous plant species of the area; cultural issues, to be mitigated by compensation of the local population; and waste accumulation, to be mitigated by removing hazardous wastes from the area or to a sanitary landfill.
