China - Yunnan Technical and Vocational Education and Training Project : environmental assessment : Environmental codes of practice : main report (English)

The objective of the Yunnan Technical and Vocational Education and Training Project for China is through curriculum cluster development, improve the quality of technical and vocational education and training, to produce skills that respond to the labor market demand, contributing to Yunnan's economic development during the 12th Five Year Plan. Negative impacts includes: air, water, and noise pollution; solid waste; soil erosion; atmosphere pollution; adverse impact on public health; and loss of trees and plants. Mitigation measures includes: 1) minimize impacts and restore damages; 2) replanting trees in project areas; 3) control erosion and sedimentation during construction; 4) proper control of runoff and erosion from acid sulphate soil (ASS) and contaminated sediments through special protection and management; 5) heavy traffic restrictions; 6) minimize disturbance to local population; frequent meetings with local people and provision of timely and adequate information to the project affected peoples (PAPs) so that their living and production conditions could be managed; and 7) application of proper safety and warning measures in the construction sites, especially in dredging canals.
