Hungary - Quick Start Gas Turbine Power Plant Project : environmental assessment (Vol. 3) (English)

This environmental assessment deals with the construction and maintenance of the Quick Start Gas Turbine Power Plant Project at two different locations, Liter and Sajoszoged, in Hungary. The potential environmental impacts include: a) construction: noise and dust levels as well as construction wastes; b) air pollution and air quality: emission of dust, nitrous oxide and sulfur dioxide; c) soil quality: oil manipulation; d) surface and subsurface water quality: wastewater; and airborne admissions; e) handling and storage of raw materials and wastes; and f) noise emissions; and other impacts. All of the impacts are negligible or within Hungarian standards. The impacts will be mitigated by the following measures: a) emission reduction through water ejection in the combustion chamber or by appropriate burner construction; b) collection and transportation of communal wastes, including separation of oily wastes; c) noise protection by silencers, special sound insulation and casing; d) accident prevention by infrastructure improvements; e) earthquake precautions; and f) fire protection and decontamination procedures.
