The development objective of Cheesemanburg Landfill and Urban Sanitation Project for Liberia is to support increased access to solid waste management (SWM) services in Greater Monrovia. Some of the negative impacts and mitigation measures include: (i) for loss of land, compensation at replacement cost to be made; (ii) compensation to be provided for persons who have formal legal rights to land (including customary and Traditional rights recognized under Liberian law); (iii) compensation to be provided for those with temporary or leased rights to use land; (iv) compensation to be provided for persons who do not have formal legal rights to lands or other assets at the time of the census, but who have claim such legal rights by virtue of occupation or use of businesses within the communities; and (v) the four land-owning Project Affected Persons (PAPs) will be receive cash compensation at a replacement cost in lieu of the one hundred acres that will be acquired for the project.
