United Nations – World Bank Prevention Study - Chapter 7 Input: Macroeconomic Environment and Policies (English)

We construct a dataset of violent conflict "remission" episodes (i.e. countries that were once in violent conflict and have a prolonged non-violent period) and examine the macroeconomic patterns for these countries in the period prior to and following the most recent case of violent conflict. We find the period preceding violent conflict resembles the onset of an economic crisis, particularly with respect to inflation and external developments. But...
