Vietnam - Mekong Delta Water Management for Rural Development Project : environmental assessment (Vol. 12) : Environmental and social screening and assessment framework (English)

The development objective of the Mekong Delta Water Managemnt for Rural Development Project is to protect and enhance the utilization of water resources in the Mekong Delta region. This will lead to sustainable gains in agricultural productivity, provide access to water supply for rural households, and contribute to climate change adaptation. Negative impacts include: soil erosion, water pollution, air pollution, noise pollution, and public health risk. Mitigation measures includes: 1) preparation of the dredge disposal framework under the Environment Management Plan (EMP), and preparation of dredge disposal plan for each civil works contract involving dredging; 2) prohibit the use of large amount of pesticides and toxic chemicals; 3) prepare water quality monitoring in line with the water quality monitoring guideline; 4) prepare an EMP comprising mitigation and monitoring measures during construction and operations, including maintaining close consultation with local population; and 5) encroachment of all aquaculture farms in protected areas and all farms will comply with the national effluent standard or good aquaculture practices.
