The Agricultural Project for Paraguay will assist in financing a three year agricultural production expansion program. Paraguay is primarily an agricultural country. Two thirds of the working population is engaged in agricultural pursuits. Currently, farm production has lagged because of limited credit facilities, poor transportation, and the absence of modern technical methods. The project will alleviate these problems by: 1) importing hand farm tools, insecticides, veterinary supplies, fertilizers, and wire, animal, and tractor drawn farm implements; 2) procuring farm tractors and implements, motor vehicles, electric generating sets, adequate spare parts and accessories, machine tools, and miscellaneous items; 3) importing road building machinery for the construction, completion, and maintenance of trunk roads; and 4) procuring trucks for the transportation of agricultural commodities. These new additions will allow farmers in Paraguay to increase agricultural production and modernize agricultural methods.
