Nepal - Project for Strengthening the National Rural Program : environmental assessment (English)

The development objective of the Project for Strengthening the National Rural Program for Nepal is to strengthen the national program for developing and maintaining district-level rural transport infrastructure for the benefit of rural communities. Some of the negative impacts and mitigation measures include: (1) identifying the needs and priority of indigenous community and other vulnerable groups and developing need-based programs to uplift their socio-economic condition through appropriate training and skill transfer; (2) consulting land use rights certificate (LURC) members by the social mobilization officer (SMO) or social development consultant (SDC) for identifying the needy people of subproject area for vulnerable community development plan (VCDP) and organizing a mass meeting for objective clarification and need assessment; and (3) organizing meeting by SMO or SDC in coordination with LRUC to identify interested vulnerable or indigenous individuals for the viable training in the context to implement or utilize the knowledge and skill learnt through VCDP in practice.
