This report comprises a project proposal for the implementation of the Gambian forest management concept (GFMC), which consists of the integrated implementation of specified management plans for state owned forest parks and community forestry reserves with the active involvement of the local population. This project goal should contribute to the forest policy objective to manage 75 percent of forest lands either as forest parks or as community forest reserves. The forest parks will serve as demonstration, development, and training centers for a large-scale community forestry multiplication. Outputs and activities connected with this project would include completing a national forest inventory, improving the physical infrastructure of the forestry departments, managing the forest parks according to forest management plans for training and demonstration purposes, and introducing and implementing community forestry through preliminary agreements and community forestry management agreements.
