The objective of the Eskom Renewables Support Project is to facilitate accelerated development of large scale renewable energy capacity in support of the long-term carbon mitigation strategy of South Africa. Negative impacts include: air pollution, noise disturbance, solid wastage, water pollution, and health and safety of worker. Mitigation measures include: 1) minimize on-site storage of petroleum products; 2) ensure proper maintenance procedures in place for vehicles and equipment; 3) deposit solid waste in containers and dispose at municipal waste disposal sites regularly; 4) supply, maintain and enforce the use of mobile toilets at the work sites; 5) negotiate water use for dust suppression and formation compaction with landowners; 6) noise levels associated with civil construction equipment at a distance of 15 metres from the source lie in the range of 75 decibels (dBA) to 100dBA; 7) keep all construction vehicles and equipment in good repair; and 8) avoid noisy night-time activities.
