The competitive advantage enjoyed by Malaysia, which has made possible the recent remarkable growth performance, rests on: (a) sound macroeconomic management; (b) a disciplined and educated labor force; and (c) a pragmatic, market oriented development strategy. Malaysia's ability to sustain high growth in the future will be determined largely by how well it consolidates on these fronts. This paper discusses output and demand development; employment, wages and prices; fiscal and monetary development; trade account performance; capital account performance; the outlook for 1992; and medium term prospects on industrial restructuring.
