The development objective of the Tamil Nadu Rural Transformation Project for India is to promote rural enterprises, access to finance, and employment opportunities in selected blocks of Tamil Nadu. Some of the negative impacts and mitigation measures include: (1) storage of grains and products like turmeric, red gram etc. needs drying to attain prescribed moisture level to avoid pest and disease infestation which may call for chemical use for management; and (2) disposal of wastes at appropriate location after milling or waste (water, seed coats, peels, etc.) after processing may create unhygienic environment due to decomposition.
