The development objective of the Urban Transport Development Project is to provide the city of Beirut and the Greater Beirut Area (GBA) with the basic institutional framework it now lacks and critical investments needed to maximize the efficiency of the existing urban transport infrastructure. These investments will provide the foundation for future development of an efficient transportation system for the city and its metropolitan area. The project consists of the following five components: 1) traffic management program; 2) parking improvement program; 3) corridor improvement program; 4) technical assistance to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport for capacity building, transport planning, public transport regulation, air quality management, and transport feasibility studies; and 5) project management.
