Globally, some 630 million people lack access to safe drinking water and some 2.4 billion people—about one third of the world’s population, do not have access to a toilet. Lack of clean water affects children in particular, because diarrhea depletes the body of key nutrients, leading to stunting and chronic malnutrition.
