Although Colombia experienced economic difficulties during 1980-85, it has recently emerged successfully from that period with a 5.1 percent growth record in 1986. This economic report takes a look at certain elements of the country's economic situation in an effort to address any remaining problems and to enhance the country's prospects for growth. Specifically, the report examines the external sector of the economy, economic growth and employment. It recommends reinforcing export promotion, enhancing economic growth to eliminate unemployment and improving the competitiveness and efficiency of financial sector operations and of resource mobilization.
