The Banda Gas-to-Power Project of Mauritania is to produce electricity from gas, to deliver it to users with a view to enhancing the power generation capacity of Mauritania and to reduce the cost and increase the supply for Mauritanian households and industry, and enable regional integration through exports of electric power from Mauritania to Senegal and Mali.The project has two main parts: (i) an offshore gas field upstream (the Banda gas field), an offshore pipeline and onshore and a gas treatment facility, and (ii) downstream of the construction two power plants near Nouakchott in Mauritania and lines of high voltage to Nouadhibou and Tasiast north, and to Senegal to the south. The anticipated impacts are the following: 1) temporary occupation of adjacent properties during the phase of work; 2) Establishment of an easement (Right of Way) on a strip of 100 meters along the power line; 3) no impacts on buildings are envisaged; 4) very limited potential impact on certain productive activities such as agriculture and livestock; 5) inconvenience for tourism at Baie de l'Etoile and Sebkha Atoueifat.
