Mali - Natural resources management in a changing climate (Vol. 2) : Mali - Projet de gestion des ressources naturelles et changements climatiques - Plan de gestion des pestes et pesticides (French)

The Objective of this Project is to improve sustainable natural resources management and promote adaptive livelihoods diversification in targeted communes in Mali. The project includes three components: strengthening institutions at national and local levels to support SLWM and livelihoods diversification; making investments to support SLWM practices and promote livelihoods diversification; knowledge management and Project co-ordination, monitoring and evaluation. Possible negative impacts include: risk of social conflict if local population can’t access enough surrounding environmental resources, potential conflicts between local communities and the administration in the use of resources or the exploitation of land; expropriation risk; risk of pollution due to improper storage and removal of batteries; water and soil pollution due to the use of pesticides. Mitigation measures include: community-based participation for the management plans, raising public awareness in managing solid and liquid waste management; installing composting sites away from homes and public places.
