India - Andhra Pradesh Water Sector Improvement Project : indigenous peoples plan (Vol. 3) : Draft final report - first year packages (English)

The objectives of the Andhra Pradesh Water Sector Improvement Project (APWSIP) for India will be: (i) to improve irrigation service delivery on a sustainable basis to increase productivity of irrigated agriculture in the Nagarjuna Sagar Scheme command; and (ii) to strengthen the State's institutional capacity for multi-sectoral planning, development and management of its water resources. Some of the negative impacts and there mitigation measures are: 1) improved incomes for Nagarjuna Sagar Project (NSP) command farmers; 2) increased awareness of water entitlements for Water User Association (WUAs)/farmers; 3) land acquisition/ Resettlement and Rehabilitation (R&R) issues addressed adequately; 4) meaningful consultation with and involvement of WUAs/farmers during project planning, modernization, and evaluation; 5) cultural property, wherever affected, are restored in consultation with the stakeholders; and 6) special issues relating to tribal's and other vulnerable groups effectively addressed and they have access to project benefits.
