The Forestry Development Project, in addressing the development issues, complements recent forestry legislation and policy initiatives. It will finance: (a) a line of credit for forest producers to finance the purchase of equipment for logging, transport, road maintenance and wood processing and to provide working capital for operations; (b) the rehabilitation of forestry roads; (c) institutional development; (d) environmental protection; and (e) special studies. Under environmental protection, the project will monitor road rehabilitation and forest harvesting activities, prepare an environmental profile, and improve infrastructure in the project area. Finally, special studies will include prefeasibility studies for pulp mills, testing of pulpability of native oak species, an environmental baseline study and aerial photo of project area, and preparation of a second stage forestry development project.
