Peru - Second Adaptable Program Loan Health Reform Program Project : indigenous peoples plan : Peru - Parasalud Segunda Fase : plan para los pueblos indigenas (Spanish)

It is expected that the proposed Plan for Indigenous Peoples (PPI), as part of the Second Adaptable Program Loan Health Reform Program Project, will contribute to the indigenous question from a conception of multiculturalism, which is most appropriate to the social context of these peoples, and will be of mutual benefit to the population and the objectives of the project. It will let the health services in the target areas of the program develop with the quality and warmth that rural and indigenous communities require. The objectives of the Second Adaptable Program Loan Health Reform Program Project are to: (i) improve family health care practices for women (during pregnancy, delivery and breast-feeding) and children under three years old in the nine poorest provinces; (ii) strengthen health service network capacities to solve obstetric, neonatal and infant emergencies, and provide comprehensive health services to women (during pregnancy, delivery and breast-feeding) and children under age three in the nine poorest provinces; (iii) support MINSA's governance functions of regulation, quality, efficiency and equity for improving the new health delivery model of maternal and child health care in a decentralized environment. Overall, the expected impact of the second PARSALUD intervention can result in an important and valuable step to help improve the quality of life of the people prioritized by the program, i.e. indigenous people whether Andean or Amazon. With the aim of enhancing their results, strategies for the second PARSALUD intervention should deepen the communication methods, approaches to social and anthropological nature that reflects the customs, habits and practices, as well as the ability to recognize cultural barriers that otherwise hinder the access of indigenous people to health services.
