The proposed additional credit for the Integrated Human Development Project for Maldives will help fill the financing gap created by a partial cancellation of the original Integrated Human Development Project credit to meet the emergency needs of the post-tsunami reconstruction in the Maldives. It will finance activities on four focus islands including: (i) education services, (ii) health services, (iii) employment services, (iv) community services, and (v) a monitoring and evaluation component, with the objective of developing the islands as alternative economic and social centers in regions remote from Male that could act as hubs for the delivery of public social services and local government.
