Tanzania - Kihansi Catchment Conservation and Management Project : environmental assessment : Integrated pest management plan for Kihansi catchment (English)

The development objective of the Kihansi Catchment Conservation and Management Project for Tanzania is to enhance biodiversity conservation in the Kihansi catchment. Negative impacts include: landscape, water resources, livelihood, forests, and gorge vegetation. Mitigation measures includes: development of clear definition of easy-to-implement and practical conservation measures targeting all endangered species; development of a clear protocol for water resources monitoring in Kihansi catchment including the gorge; development of a clear restoration targets and concise procedures for restoring modified forest landscapes to support desired plant ecosystem; carry out prior studies of effects of chemicals to be used in the gorge and restrict/prohibit usage of detrimental chemicals in the gorge; carry out impacts monitoring for effects of chemical imported into the gorge; provision of platforms for sharing research findings to wider scientific and non-scientific community; and an alternative power sources to use of fuel generator.
