The development objectives of the Labor Intensive Public Works Project are to provide needed infrastructure to improve access to basic public services; and to create short term employment. There are three components to the project. The first component of the project is community infrastructure. This component will finance works and goods for small sub-projects in the sectors such as: health, education, water supply, sewage, water harvesting schemes, stone paving of roads and streets and vocational training. The second component of the project is technical assistance. This component will finance consultancy services for: 1) preliminary and detailed designs of sub-projects including construction supervision; 2) auditing services; 3) environmental assessments, monitoring, and technical advisory services; and 4) training and workshops. The third component of the project is project management. This component will finance goods, consulting services, incremental operational costs of the Project Management Unit (PMU) and staff training.
