The development objective of the Madhya Pradesh Urban Development Project (MPUDP) for India is to enhance the capacity of the relevant State-level institutions to support Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in developing and financing urban infrastructure. Some of the negative impacts and mitigation measures include: (i) temporary loss of livelihood for street vendors during laying of distribution network; (ii) permanent loss of property needing resettlement and rehabilitation in partial or full; (iii) loss of public utility in congested lane during pipe line laying; (iv) loss of vegetation; (v) impact of drawl of water from natural stream, on the downstream population; (vi) temporary disruption of structures and utilities along the roadside; (vii) ensure that the Interests of scheduled tribes and other disadvantaged people present in the participating towns are protected and are consulted in culturally appropriate manner; and (viii) land acquisition or transfer of government land resulting in resettlement and rehabilitation issues, if any to be minimized and compensated.
