China - Third Henan Highway Project : environmental assessment (Vol. 9) : Kaifeng-Gongjiapeng Road - Zhengyang Road Upgrading Project - initial environmental examiniation and envrionmental action plan (Inglês)

This is an environmental assessment of the Third Henan Highway Project, which connecting roads linking the existing Zhumadian-Xinyang expressway with cities and towns and highway networks. Negative environmental impacts will be mitigated as follows: to control traffic noise, entrances to facilities will be built to avoid facing roads and fences alongside the road will be raised. Borrow pits filled with solid wastes will be located in wastelands or abandoned land whenever possible. Land will be cleared and recovered as soon as construction is completed. Temporary drains will prevent any surface runoff. Central lime soil mixing plants will be distanced from residential areas, earth roads will be watered, hauling trucks will be covered, and plant operators will wear protective gauze masks and goggles to reduce the impact of dust. Equipment delivering asphalt will be sealed and worker exposure to this substance will be reduced. Operators will be equipped with earplugs and construction activity will be regulated to reduce noise. Sewage will be treated before discharge, seepage controls employed, and refuse removed regularly. Cultural relics will be protected if unearthed. Exhaust gas will be monitored periodically. Slope protection works will be provided with grass planted to prevent instability and soil erosion.
