Evaluation of Bank Support for Gender (Approach Paper) (Inglês)

The World Bank was first among the multilateral institutions to make gender issues an explicit item of attention. Amongst other things, the Bank's current policies require that an assessment be made in each active client country to identify gender constraints to development effectiveness. This evaluation is interested in assessing the relevance of the Bank's gender strategy, its integration of gender into Bank support, and results of the strategy. It will consist of a broader Country Gender Evaluation in 93 countries and an in-depth Results Evaluation of Bank support for gender and development in 12 countries, with focus on economic participation of women and social empowerment. The 12 countries will be evaluated with a variety of methods, including desk reviews and structured interviews. Field visits and beneficiary assessments are planned in two countries as part of this second assessment to understand the views of stakeholders. Moreover, video-conferencing will be arranged with stakeholders in other 10 countries.
