India - Structural change and development perspectives (Vol. 2) (Inglês)

This report reviews growth and structural change in India during the period 1973-1983, and then considers the implications of a 5 percent growth rate for the future. It discusses the current economic situation, and gives an overview of growth and structural change during the decade of the two oil shocks. It analyzes the macroeconomic implications of an annual growth rate of 5 percent, discusses need for improvements in utilization of domestic and external resources and accelerated growth in exports, and develops a policy framework to attain these targets. It concludes with a discussion of the essential role of foreign concessional assistance in supporting India's efforts toward accelerated and equitable development, including mitigation of risks inherent in foreign borrowing and support for India~^!!^s efforts to address poverty problems.
