Colombia - Caribbean Savannah Carbon Sink Project : environmental assessment (Vol. 2) : Establecimiento de 1500 ha de plantaciones de Caucho Natural, municipio de Montelibano (Espanhol)

The Caribbean Savannah Carbon Sink Project for Colombia aims to develop carbon sinks through silvo-pastoral and reforestation systems on about 2000 hectares of moderately to severely degraded lands in the Caribbean Savannahs of Colombia. This environmental assessment document evaluated impacts and suggests mitigation measures in the following areas : land degradation; surface and ground water quality; erosion; afforestation and watershed protection; flora and fauna; reduction of emission of toxic gasses; indigenous communities. increased emission of good oxygen; reforestation; solid waste disposal; use and proper storage of agrochemicals; promote direct reforestation and secondary forest regeneration; weed control; loss of biodiversity due to ecosystems fragmentation and altering of natural habitats; promote the use of bio-fertilizers; enforce improved methods to avoid soil degradation and contamination caused by excessive use of fertilizers and pesticides; promote local employment opportunities for project affected peoples (PAPs); and finally, avoid or minimize impacts associated with the production of rubber.
