India - Andhra Pradesh Urban Reforms and Municipal Services Project : environmental assessment : Social and environmental assessment management framework (Inglês)

The objective of the Andhra Pradesh Urban Reforms and Municipal Services Project for India is to support urban reforms to improve city management and upgrade and expand municipal services through provision of physical infrastructure with particular focus on reducing urban poverty. Negative measures include: flooding, water logging, changes in land fertility, loss of flora and fauna, changes in the water table, erosion, land pollution, changes in air temperature, acidic rain, air quality changes due to dust and smoke, odor nuisance, changes in noise levels due to traffic congestion and dumping, impacts on aquatic life, decreased oxygen, over-exploitation and contamination of groundwater, clogged surface drains from refuse and sediments, waste spills, wetland loss, leaching from solid waste, health risks caused by infection from organic waste, and health risks due to infected animals, among others. Mitigation measures include: a) the ground water abstraction should be restricted to permissible limit. Ground water balance must be taken in to consideration while using groundwater as a source; b) care shall be taken to avoid creation of borrow pits as far as possible, if not, proper care shall be taken for human and animal safety and to avoid water logging; c) all pipe appurtenances should be tested before laying; d) future traffic projections to decide on the carriageway, proper identification of material dumping during construction; and e) check for noise levels of construction equipment construction activities with moderate to high noise levels should be carried out as far as possible only during daytime.
