Africa - Additional Financing for CEMAC Transport Transit Facilitation Project : environmental assessment : Rapport d'etude d'impact environnemental (Francês)

The objective of this study is to determine the positive and negative impacts of this project on the environment during the execution of construction and after commissioning the paved bypass, the Kousseri, and the new border bridge on Logone River, while providing appropriate protection, mitigation or compensation where appropriate. The study is concerned with the bypass of the town of Kousseri, access to the site of the new border bridge to be built on the Logone River and possibly borrow pits etc. Major harmful effects of the project include: 1) Pollution of the environment (river and soil) by solid and liquid waste; 2) Air pollution; 3) (Soil and water) pollution through fuel/oil leakage; 4) Water and soil pollution by dumping; 5) Creation of waste disposal and garbage sites; 6) Soil degradation and water pollution by disposal; and 7) Risk of infectious transmissible diseases (STD/AIDS, etc).
