Nepal - Kabeli 'A' Hydroelectric Project : environmental assessment (Vol. 7) : Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) (Inglês)

The objective of the Kabeli 'A' Hydroelectric Project for Nepal is to support the addition of new transmission capacity to evacuate an estimated 170 MW in the Kabeli river corridor in first phase and 30 MW of new generation capacity in second phase. Negative measures include: water quality, air quality, drainage, waste management, soil erosion, and noise pollution. Mitigation measures include: a) to minimize the effects of land use changes, the design engineers will be instructed to design the superstructures visible at the ground surface complementing to the surrounding topographic forms such that the general aesthetics of the area is similar to the exiting one; b) controlled blasting will be practiced at all times while excavating the surface or underground area to have a minimum vibration impact in the surrounding areas; c) the river bank erosion due to bed level rise and damage to the agricultural fields will be minimized by the river bank protection measures in the critical areas successively as the erosion potentials are noted or reported by the farmers; d) prohibition in the blowing of horns in critical stretches close to villages and near the school area along the road; Stockpiling and storage of the construction materials in designated sites only. Prohibition on the stockpiling of construction materials in other areas; and e) the access roads will be facilitated by permanent side drain structures to collect water from the slope area. The collected water of the side drains will be discharged to suitable natural waterways to avoid upstream and downstream erosion.
