Charging for water resources management (Inglês)

This note is one in a series explaining the attributes and practical application of integrated river basin management. This note describes: 1) The aspects to which charges are typically applied; 2) How charges should be set; 3) What is the actual cost for water resources management; and 4) Who should set or oversee the charges. This note concentrates on one key aspect of the basin sustainability matrix: how to establish appropriate water resource user charges to cover the costs of managing the impacts of their actions and to encourage better utilization of the resource and promote conservation. Annual budget issues to support the ongoing IRBM programs are discussed in this note.
