Guyana - Skeldon Sugar Modernisation Project (SSMP) : environmental assessment (Vol. 3) (Inglês)

The Guyana, Bagasse Cogeneration Project consists of the addition of a more efficient co-generation plant to the ongoing Skeldon Sugar Modernization Project (SSMP) - a modern sugar factory will manufacture Very High Pol (VHP) raw sugar and requires the expansion of the existing sugar cane area. Guysuco's environmental management responsibilities include wildlife conservation, water quality, waste management, worker health and safety, and agricultural pest management. The project mitigation factors are following: Water from construction operations would be routed to temporary sediment ponds, the bases of stockpiles of dust-generating construction materials would be enclosed in wooden or other suitable support structures, bush clearing debris would be kept away from watercourses, material will be stockpiled in a way to reduce slope failure, and there will be no washing of machinery in canal.
